The first 3 Roche-Kontron real-time scanners. Left to right: The Axiscan 5 (1976), the Abdoscan 5 (1979) and the Superscan 50 (1979). The Axiscan 5 was one of the earliest commercially available real-time scanners from Europe, and was therefore popular. At around 1976, one had very few choices, one buys either the Axiscan from Kontron, the EUB-10 from Hitachi, the System 85 from Diagnostic Sonar, or the 2130 from ADR. The Abdoscan and Superscan were much improved scanners produced in the beginning and end of 1979, incorporating advanced focusing techniques.
