Dr. Russell L. Deter, MD, graduated from the Baylor University and Baylor College of Medicine. After working in various area of medical imaging he soon settled into sonography and in particular sonography and biometry in Obstetrics. Deter completed two post-doctoral fellowships at Louvain University in Belgium, and at Rockefeller University in New York. He has been a Faculty Fullbright Advisor since 1974, and is active both at Baylor and in several professional organizations. He soon became Director of Obstetrical Sonography, as well as an Associate Professor of Ob/Gyn and Cell Biology at Baylor. Deter has been a fore-runner in fetal ultrasonic biometry and with Frank P. Hadlock, Ivar Rossavik and others in his department published many important papers in this field, contributing heavily to both the theoretical and practical aspects of fetal measurements, dating, growth, weight estimations and population morphometrics. The many charts on fetal morphometric measurements from Baylor are used widely in the United States and all over the world. Russell Deter has received numerous citations and awards, including listing in Personalities of the South, National Register of Prominent Americans and International Notables, Outstanding Americans, and listing in several Who's Who directories. Deter has contributed to several medical texts, and is author and co-author of over 160 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts. Deter became editor of the Journal of Clinical Ultrasound (JCU) in 1982 and is now retired.
